In 2008 in Washington County alone 1,400 children spent at least 1 day in foster care Right now there is only 1 foster family for every 7 children.
In 2008, ONLY 300 children were adopted from the foster care system, which means 40% of these children will go through their lives with no permanent family.
Where do we go from here?
There is no cost to become a foster or adoptive parent in Oregon.
To become a foster/adoptive parent you need to complete the 8 training classes provided through the Department of Human Services. Once training is completed there will be a certification process.
